Crocheted Coin Purse
I saw a coin purse posted on line I really liked, but it was in Japanese, and was not readily available to me. I could not find the pattern anywhere, so I decided I would make up a version of my own. I really liked the texture which looked woven rather than just single crochet, but I couldn’t figure it out, so I decided just to work it in single crochet until….. I turned it inside out, and Voila!! That was the secret to the woven textured look. This was done in the round. I used Pigsah 100% Natural cotton in worsted weight on a 3.25 mm hook to get it tight. I did a 42 sc flat circle, then quit with the increases and just sc’d around and around in a spiral until it made a bowl. Using crochet thread, I stitched on the purse frame, going around twice. I noticed it was much easier to start in a middle hole and weave in and out going one end tot he next, back and forth until all the stitches doubled and the thread met in the center. I tied a knot in the middle and tucked it under the frame. Then I put some stitches in the side grommets to hold it tight. I think it turned out really cute. Its literally a 1-hour project but you have to get the hang of sewing on the frame. The frame was $3.99 at JoAnn Fabrics and I used about 35 cents worth of yarn. I think it would be a cute handmade gift.

I don’t really have a pattern but basically I made a big flat coaster then quit doing any increases. It starts to round up on its own. Then I added a few evenly spaced decreases once I thought it was tall enough, and gathered it up and stuck it in a frame. Thank you sooo much for your post. I’ve been wanting to make one of these and the ones I thought were cute were all sorts of foreign languages ugh. My husband at one point looked over at me and asked what the heck I was listening too as I was trying to listen to a tutorial in Russian lol. I am going to give this a try again thank you!!
I’ve listened to things in different languages too as well as learned to read the Japanese patterns with my husband wondering what the heck I am listening to. Where there is a will, there is a way, and always a better way after that.

the measurement of the circle? My 42 ss circle looks tiny I’m thinking I may have to do more of the increase rounds. Thank you so much!!
About 46 sts around and 2 3/4 diameter before stopping on the increases and just going round and round. If yarn is bigger than sport weight then just as many increases as it takes to get to 2 3/4 or so.
